Do you need help changing your primary email on Facebook?
In an earlier article, I covered how to change your name on Facebook, but what do you do if you need to change your email address? It doesn’t matter if you need to change your primary email address on Facebook for security reasons or just because you have a new address, the process is simple! Read on for the step by step instructions…
How to change your primary email on Facebook…
Changing your primary email on Facebook is something that you’ll most likely have to do at one point or another. Whether you’ve grown old of your original email address, or decided to change to something more your style, you’ll need to edit your Facebook account to reflect that change so you can use your new email address to login and get account notifications.
The process is pretty simple, so follow along with these three quick steps…
Log in to your Facebook account – You’ll still be using your “old” primary email address, which is the one you’ll sign in with.
Open your “Account Settings” – Toward the very top right of the screen, you’ll see a downward pointing arrow to the right of the word “Home”. Click on this arrow and then click “Account Settings”.
Edit your Primary Email – After you clicked on “Account Settings”, you will have been brought to the General Account Settings Page. Here, you will have access to change your basic account settings such as your name, password, or email address. To edit your primary email address, click on “Edit” to the right of the “Email” section. This will open a menu similar to the one shown below.
NOTE: In order to change your primary email address on Facebook, you will need to first add your new email address. If you have not yet done so, click on “Add another email” and then enter your new email address. Facebook will send you a confirmation email to the address you just entered in order to verify that the address is valid.
Once you see a screen similar to the one above, you’ll just need to select the bubble next to the email address you’d like to make primary for your account. Once you’ve done so, enter your password to confirm your changes are authorized, and then click on the “Save Changes” button.
Now that you’ve changed your primary email address on Facebook, you can go back into the “Edit” section and remove your old email address if you no longer wish to be associated with it. If you still have access to that email address, or you don’t need to distance yourself from it immediately, you may choose to keep it in your profile as a secondary email in case old friends or family attempt to look up your profile on Facebook by that old email address. Whenever you see fit, you can always go back into your account settings and remove your old email addresses.
